Collection Management is one of the most challenging aspects of providing information services, and one of the most important professional activities in which the information professional regularly engages. Astute selection of materials, combined with efficient acquisition procedures, enables libraries to provide the patron with access to needed information. Embedded within the technical processes of Collection Management are some of the key issues facing librarianship today, such as censorship, copyright compliance, and preservation/conservation of materials.

This first module is introductory, getting you to think about Collection Management and giving you a taste of some of the foundation documents and activities.

At the end of this course participants will understand the differences between Collection Management and Collection Development, and be able to describe the range of Collection Management responsibilities and articulate the skills and competencies required. As part of this course participants will analyse a case study to understand the process of implementing or revising Collection Management policies and processes.

Course Costs:

  • This introductory module is FREE for LIANZA members only.
